PRE / POST TREATMENT CARE GUIDELINES
DERMAL FILLERS
Pre-Treatment (Minimize the chance of bruising or risks with injections)
- This treatment is not recommended if you have an important event within 3 or 4 weeks of injection due to potential for bruising and swelling.
- 7 days prior to your appointment:
• Stop taking asprin containing medications such as Exotrin, Bufferin, Anacin and Alka-Seltzer.
• Stop taking any non-steriodal anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen (Advil and Motrin), naproxen (Aleve, Naprosyn), rofecoxib (Vioxx) and others.
• Also stop all other products that may increase the chance of bleeding such as large amounts of garlic or garlic containing supplements, Vitamin E, St. John’s Wort, Gingko, Omega-3, Feverfew, Ginseng, Airborne or other herbal supplements. - 3 days prior to your appointment please avoid:
• Do not drink alcoholic beverages
• Consider taking arnica and/or bromelain supplement
• If you have a history of cold sores, please take your antiviral medications such as Valacyclovir or Acyclovir as directed by your provider, if you do not have this medication prescribed for you
please let your injector know.
• Day of appointment for filler patients consider taking an antihistamine such as Zyrtec or Allegra.
Post Treatment Care (Both Filler & Neurotoxin Clients)
- Avoid the following for up to 1 week pre and post injection: Aspirin, NSAIDS (Ibuprofen), Ginko Biloba, Garlic Supplements, Green Tea, Flax Oil, Cod Liver Oil, Vitamins A and E, and essential fatty acids.
- Tylenol is fine.
- Avoid touching, rubbing, or manipulating areas for 48 hours following treatment.
- Lumps in the injected area are normal and typically dissipate over the next several months. These lumps may be gently massaged if your clinician has instructed you to do so.
- Continue to ice or use cool compresses without pressing on the injected areas for the first 48 hours as recommended by your practitioner.
- Sleep with head elevated for the first 1-2 nights depending on level of swelling and bruising.
- Avoid vigorous exercise and heat for 3 days.
- It is best to avoid make-up for the first 12-24 hours.
- Bruising in the area injected is normal and expected, especially if treated around the eyes. Bruising usually lasts one week but can last up to several weeks. Eating 2 kiwi fruit and/or taking or using Arnica may help decrease the amount of bruising.
- Do not apply products that are potentially irritating for 2 days (Retin-A, glycolic acid, benzoyl peroxide, hydroquinone, etc).
- Perform a test spot prior to using these products by applying a small amount to the treated area, if there is any irritation, remove product and perform another spot test in 24-48 hours. Resume products when there is no sense of irritation.
- Avoid intense heat (sunbathing) or extreme cold for the first 2 weeks to avoid further inflammation to the area.
- Neurotoxin clients: Adjustments may be done in 2-3 weeks if needed.
- Filler clients: You may experience lumps or bumps, swelling and bruising for 1-2 weeks, some tenderness is common up to 6 weeks. Your dermal filler will be fully integrated into your tissues at 8 weeks, this is a good time to make adjustments or add filler.
- Avoid microneedling, laser, IPL or skin tightening treatments of the area for at least 2-3 weeks, especially treatments that create heat in the dermis. Radio Frequency skin tightening treatments such as Exilis or eMatrix that treat deeper levels of dermal tissue are not recommended in the injected area post treatment for six months. Please call during normal business hours if you have ANY questions or concerns.
DERMAPLANE
Pre-Treatment (What to Expect)
- It may take multiple treatments to visualize improvements.
- Improved smoothness, texture, luminescence.
- Improved mild photo damaged skin-mottle pigmentation.
- Comedonal acne.
- Improves acne scarring.
Contra-Indications
- Exfoliation is contraindicated for those with infections of all types, such as herpes simplex virus or flat warts.
- Active acne
- Uncontrolled diabetes
- Eczema, Dermatitis
- Skin cancer
- Vascular lesions
- Oral blood thinner
- Rosacea
- Tattoos – not effective
- Pregnancy
Post Exfoliation Instructions
- Discontinue use of hydroxyl acids and retinols following your treatment for approximately 3 days.
- Do not use harsh scrubs or abrasive loofahs following your treatment for at least 3 days.
- Avoid direct sun exposure and wear a sunscreen daily.
- Avoid vigorous activity and hot heat.
- Do not go swimming or put face under water for first 12 hours.
- Do not take long hot showers or put face under a hot stream of water for first 12 hours after treatment.
- Avoid drinking alcohol for a minimum of 12 hours.
- Avoid surfaces that could irritate your skin i.e. pillows, beards, collared or turtleneck shirts.
- Do not pick or prematurely peel the skin, as this will cause hyper pigmentation and/or surface scars.
- Return to the office as directed by provider or sooner with any complications.

KYBELLA
Pre-Instructions
- You should not be pregnant, nursing an infant, have a history of a bleeding disorder or infection of the area to be treated. The morning of your treatment you should take ibuprofen if you are able to tolerate this medication. Also, you should tell your physician if you take any blood thinners or aspirin or have a history of any issue with lidocaine or epinephrine.
Post Care Instructions
- Ice packs may be used on the treated area during the first 12 hours. Ice for 15 minutes, every hour.
- Do not massage the injection site.
- Avoid heavy exercise the day of your treatment
- Notify our office if any significant, swelling, bleeding, pain, dusky discoloration, difficulty swallowing or smiling, or fever occurs.
Alternatives:
- As explained not all submental fullness will respond to KYBELLA. Other alternative treatments are liposuction to the area, a neck lift and/or platysmoplasty procedures.
LASER HAIR REMOVAL
Pre Treatment Care
- You must shave the hair of the body part to be treated. If you cannot shave yourself, then advise the technician and our staff prior to treatment in order schedule extra time in the appointment and we can do it for you for a fee of $50 per area per occurrence.
- Do not wax, pluck or use depilatories during your series of laser hair reduction.
- Avoid sun exposure for 1 to 2 weeks prior to treatment and use SPF 30 daily to ensure coverage against UVB and UVA rays.
- Do not use self-tanning products for 1 to 2 weeks prior to and/or post treatment.
- Discontinue use of Tretinoin type products (Renova, Tretinoin, Retin A, Retin A Micro, Tri-Luma, Solage, etc.) or Hydroquinone at least 2 or 3 days prior to treatment.
- Many medications that are sun sensitive will also make you more sensitive to the laser. Please disclose any medications that you may be taking.
- If you have a history of cold sores, begin prophylactic treatment with Valtrex or similar no later than the day prior to your laser hair treatment.
- Notify the center if you develop a cold sore, acne, open lesions in the area being treated, or experience any type of illness prior to your treatment.
- REMEMBER: Laser hair reduction is never 100%. Industry standard is 75 to 90% reduction in the hairs. Not all hairs will be destroyed. Hormones can cause hair to grow back.
Post Treatment Care
- You may experience small red bumps around the hair follicle. This is normal and expected. Do not pick, rub or scratch these until they have cleared. Your skin overall may be sensitive for several days following your laser hair removal treatment.
- If your skin scabs or crusts, or your experience a burn, do not pick, rub or scratch these areas. Doing so can result in infection, permanent pigment changes in your skin or even scarring. Gently cleanse the area and apply hydrocortisone cream several times a day for one week. If the area is open, also apply a layer of antibiotic ointment over the hydrocortisone cream. Please contact us immediately if you experience any burns.
- Do not sunbathe or use a tanning bed for at least 2 weeks following your treatment. If you need to be out in the sun, wear an SPF 30 minimum.
- Avoid swimming, hot tubs and saunas for several days following your treatment.
- It can take several weeks for the hair in the treated area to “fall out” (push up and out of the follicle). This time frame is normal.
- Do not expect your hair to “not grow back” after a single session. Laser hair removal is a process.
- Subsequent treatment sessions should be 6 to 8 weeks if done on the face and 8 to 12 weeks if done on the body.
- Although rare, infection in the treated area is possible. Signs of infection may include redness and tenderness in the infected area and fever. Should you develop an infection, antibiotics may be necessary.

MICRONEEDLING
Pre Treatment Care
- Avoid Vitamin E, fish oils, and Ginkgo Biloba for one week prior to treatment.
- Avoid ASA (Abbreviation on a medication that indicates it contains Acetylsalicylic Acid Aspirin) 2 weeks before treatment. Please consult with your physician first if you are on ASA therapy.
- Avoid anti-histamine and inflammatory drugs once week prior to treatment. These negate the effects of the procedure. The body’s histamine and inflammatory responses are needed post procedure.
- Stop Laser Hair Removal, Electrolysis, Waxing, and Depilatory creams one week prior to treatment.
- Stop topical retinoids (tretinoin and retinoic acid (Retin-A, Renova, Refissa)) one week prior to treatment.
- If using Accutane, a 3-month waiting period after discontinuation of medication is required.
- Please notify our office if you have ever been diagnosed with Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV)- You may require prophylactic therapy.
What to expect after your treatment:
- Immediate pinpoint bleeding may occur, which will resolve within 10 minutes.
- Minor redness and swelling will occur for 1-2 days.
- Minor peeling and flakiness will occur after a few days. Don’t pick at the loose skin.
- Call our office if you experience excessive redness, swelling, pain or drainage as they might indicate an infection.
Post Treatment Care
- The initial 72 hours post-procedure are the most critical.
- Avoid direct sun and head. This includes simple day-to-day tasks such as gardening, cooking over a hot stove for a long period of time, sitting next to a bonfire or fireplace, etc.
- Discontinue use of any Alpha-Hydroxy products. You may resume your home care regimen when skin is no longer flaking and peeling.
- Use hydrating and reparative products. Products rich in soothing and healing ingredients are best to encourage new, healthy cell growth. Peptides, antioxidants, stem cells, Vitamin A, C, and E, and growth factors work very well.
- Use physical sunscreen. Sun care products should be applied no less than every 30-90 minutes. DO NOT go outside without sun protection (even on a cloudy day).
- No scratching or peeling.
- Limit exercise the first week.
- Drink plenty of water.
PLASMA RENEWAL
Pre Treatment Care
- If you develop a fever, cold, flu, or develop a cold sore, blemish, or rash, etc. in the area to be treated prior to your appointment, you must reschedule (we will not treat you).
- It is recommended if you have a special event or vacation coming up that you schedule your treatment at least 2 weeks in advance (we prefer 3-4).
- If you are being treated in the lip area and have a history of Herpes (cold sores) with outbreaks more than 4 times a year some practitioners recommend that you are pre-treated with medication.
- This office recommends Valtrex 2mg the day before or the morning of the treatment and then another 2mg 12 hours after the first dose. Please let us know that you need a prescription if you do not have this medication on hand.
- Discontinue use of anti-inflammatory drugs (steroidal and non-steroidal) such as: Aspirin, Motrin (or any other Ibuprofen drugs) at least 3 days to 1 week before your treatment. With Plasma Renewal, we “want” inflammation this is one of the mechanisms of how Plasma Renewal does its work. If you are or have been on Systemic use of Corticosteroids (steroids) within 2 weeks of treatment, we cannot treat you. Consult your physician for approval to discontinue use of steroids and receive treatment.
- Discontinue use of any other blood thinning agents such as: Vitamin E, Vitamin A, Gingko Biloba, Garlic, Flax Oil, Cod Liver Oil, Essential Fatty Acids (EFA’s and DHA’s) etc. at least 3 days to 1 week before and after treatment to minimize bruising and bleeding.
- It is recommended that you avoid: Alcohol, caffeine, Niacin supplement, spicy foods, and cigarettes 3 days before and after your treatment. (All of these may increase risk of bruising).
Post Treatment Care
- Please carefully read and follow these Instructions after your Plasma Renewal treatment. There are minimal restrictions after your Plasma Renewal injections allowing you to return to your daily activities almost immediately.
- Do NOT touch, press, rub, or manipulate the treated area (s) for at least 8 hours after your treatment.
- AVOID Aspirin, Motrin, Ibuprofen, Alev e (all non-steroidal and steroidal anti-inflammatory agents), Gingko Biloba, Garlic, Flax Oil, Cod liver Oil, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, or any other essential fatty acids at least 3 days -1week prior to and after your treatment. Remember, we are creating inflammation.
- If you experience discomfort or pain you may take Tylenol or other Acetaminophen products.
- You may apply Ice if you wish to the injected area for 20-30 minutes after the procedure but we would prefer if you can refrain from this.
- Do not wash or take a shower for at least 6 hours after your treatment.
- Do not use any lotions, creams, or make-up for at least 6 hours after your treatment.
- AVOID: vigorous exercise, sun and heat exposure for at least 3 days after your treatment.
- AVOID: Alcohol, caffeine, and cigarettes for 3 days before and after your treatment.
- Smokers do not heal well and problems recur earlier and results may take longer.
- Maintain a healthy diet and Drink at least 64 oz.’s of water the day of the treatment. (Fiji water is recommended due to its high content of Silica) Continue water intake the first week after.
- It is normal to experience: Bruising, Redness, Itching, Soreness, and Swelling that may last from 3-10 days following your procedure.
